The "potter's field" is used to bury strangers, criminals, and the poor. It's as almost if those people must die a different death than us; that they must have a different resolve than us or the righteous; how foolish. In biblical metaphor, Judas betrays Jesus—the incarnation of the divine Potter, God—for pieces of silver that is then used to purchase a "potter's field" after he k*lls himself. An act as he does if to say he is "beyond redemption," when the very act of betrayal buys it for all of us. Biblical symbolism reveals the implied theme in the “potter” and the “clay” imagery as a reference to God’s omniscient sovereignty over humanity; the potter knows how to mold to clay. Remember the times when we view ourselves as the "Jesus" in our stories when we forget that we, too, have betrayed others as well—even if just ourselves. That we need grace just as much as the one who commits a criminal act, or one who is poor. One day, we will all need the grace we feel someone else doesn't deserve. When the ebbs and flows of life don't add up, when we are left with more questions than answers, realizing we aren't the only one asking questions makes us feel less alone.
